Thread: My New Toy

Picked up one of these little guys off the 'Bay in REALLY good condition...Now from what I understand this is a Thuringian, but is it really true that Escher was the manufacturer of "The Celebrated Water Razor Hone"? I was just curious about the history of this thing. If anyone else here has one of these, I'd love to hear what you think of it's finishing capabilities.

I recently just got a Coticule as well so I'm focusing all my energy on learning the Coti at the moment, so I'm going to leave this little Thuri alone for a few weeks unti I have time to play with it. Still a nice find IMHO....

LOL! so you're the one that bought it! I was looking at it as well...alas, couldn't release the funds. Hope it serves you well. It was listed as a thuringian, but the pics weren't that great of the box, and I didn't see a name on the box either, other than "the celebrated".

HAHA No kidding! Yeah I figured it was a reasonable price for something that (allegedly) will perform like an Escher, albeit slightly smaller...The stone is in VERY good condition which makes me happy..

i have one its acatuly in the classified at the mo..i took my coticule edge to its usaul max and the thury i used it as a final hone . I tryed with slurry to water and slurry only plus water only. while the shave was still good i did'nt feel any differance worth praising..

Now i have won a 5x2.5 escher on ebay . i lapped it up and its absalutley lvely in apearance . i have been playing around with on several razors. light slurry to water and water only.. I have to say i acatuly feel a distinct differance . very nice and smoth just as coticule but in a totaly diferant feel on my face which i think i could get use to . so for me the coticule and this escher i have right now is going no where, they both blend in very well with my honing routine .

Yep, the price kinda threw me a bit as well; seeing what they usually go for. I'm not too familiar w/ nati's and I definitely don't have the experience to tell by just appearance, so I baulked on it. Glad to see one of our guys snagged it instead of some clueless antique person who is gonna try and resell it for $200.

I'm doing just that at the mo its my forth escher the other thre i sold . I just love this one maybe forth time lucky.. there is no dout you have to be shave ready of te coticule . then the thury or escher will work better as sole finisher . they both deliver the goods when used to the max ...

jpcwon, there are similar small boxed thuringians with a tiny goblet logo in the middle of the label with E&Co written on the goblet. I'm sure those were made by Escher, whether the ones with other labels were made by Escher I don't know. Escher wasn't the only company making thuringians. However because Escher put his name on so many backlabels, endlabels, cardboard boxes etc I personally wouldn't call anything an Escher without the name or logo on the stone or box.

All the little thuringians I have tried were very fine whether they had a goblet or not. So yeah, nice find!
