Lapping my Naniwa 12 K and Norton
Will the lapping stone that came with my norton kit lap my Naniwa 12K?
I have been told to use wet sand paper to lap my norton 8K and I lost mine in a recent move. What grit is the best 600?

People here lap their Norton 4K, 8K and Naniwa 12K stones with the DMT 325 diamond lapping stone. That means that 400 grit would be fine for your usage as would 600 grit. You could even start with 400 and finish with 600.

Lapping my Naniwa 12 K and Norton
Yes the norton lapping stone will lap any waterstone. It does leave a very rough surface which you may not like honing on.
The dmt leaves a MUCH smoother surface.
600 grit sandpaper is okay if I recall correctly. 400 works pretty well too, so does 1200. For fast work 220 is much quicker.
I stopped using sandpaper cause its messy, and I didn't get great results. Also can get grit in your stone with sandpaper.

Ok. Got my DMT. anything I should NOT do as far as lapping the 4-8-12k hones? How often should I rinse the slurry off? Do I do it under running water? That's what I been doing.

You're going to find that you have to remove a lot of surface area to get past the graininess of the Norton (or at least I did)...You'll know once you hit the good stuff!!
also, you'll want to draw a grid w/pencil on the surface of the hone prior to lapping, so you can tell if there are any high/low spots. I personally had to do this 4-5x on my Norton before I was able to remove all of the grid at once. It's a bit of a process, but it's worth it!!
