    Default NYC Hones and strops?

    Hi All,

Anyone know of any good places to get hones and strops in NYC?
I thought it would have been big business here but I can't find anything anywhere!

    Kind regards
    Jamie

Hey, I can't find anything either. This is still a pretty niche market so not too much around. Your best bet is online.

What's the name of the famous B&M shop in NYC? Pasteur I think it was. Never been there, mind you, but it's famous for its product line. Maybe others here can chime in.

Yes, Pasteur's Pharmacy might have strops. I know they have Dovo straights at the 34th St. location. You could try calling both locations, no sense making a trip if they don't have any. I doubt they would have hones. Also, you could call Paul Mole barber shop, they sell brushes, I don't know if they would have strops.

NO the stone/hone market is not big bussiness like it was when
every one need a good stone or hone.
See the online sellers have much lower overhead.
And for the money they spend on overhead are able to reach more buyers
then the brick and morter shops.
The internet made life hell for them little guys.

I just remebered, check the New York Shaving Company, they have two locations and they have a strop and a paddle strop listed on their website.

There is always a solution, whether it's already present or if you have to make it.

Was just at Pasteur's on 34th yesterday, December 26th - they have (I am guessing) 1-3/4 and 2-1/2 strops; I believe the smaller one was $70ish and am certain the larger was $102.99. Both were leather with a canvas back.

I'm new to straight razor shaving and decided to cap my purchase yesterday at $200.00 so didn't get one, but did get an Omega #4 brush with stand and cup along with Truefit and Hill pre-shave oil, shaving cream (6.7 oz) and aftershave. Also picked up some Pinaud Clubman (for the nostalgia) and a styptic pencil (which I am sure will be necessary) while I was there.

A little surprised how little $200 bought, but looking forward to shaving the way grandpa did.

For NYC it is best for the internet. You can not compare prices as they are just to expensive. Plus when you do find anything there is not much selection as it is not something that is so common anymore. It is a shame because I am in queens and it is so tough finding anything and when you do you wind up praying for the sky high rents for the properties these guys own. Online is the only reasonable solution...shame
