Thanked: 0Used Old Hone - Please help ID / Too Beat up to Use?
Got this from my dad along with some old used razors. Any idea the grit? History?
What about the beat up edges? Does that make it bad to use? The main surface seems in good shape.

Thanked: 43Nice barber hone! Swaty's are some of the good ones. So just lap it and use it. As far as grit I'm not really sure but I hear they are in the 8K range.

You can lap the surface and round the edges and the edges of the chips with sand paper. Lapping may take a while, barber hones are hard, however when you're done you will a decent hone.

I've lapped a swaty on glass with silicon carbide grit starting at 80 and working up. Didn't take too long and worked nicely.
It's not expensive either, might be worth giving a shot. When the Dude is recognized in the world, unDudeness will be seen everywhere--- the Dude de Ching
