    Default santa came

i got a 1/3k nanawa and a 8k nanawa for christmas,my razor is pulling badly,it still shaves but its not very pleasant
question is do i wait till i get some wet and dry to lap them even though they look flat, have a go as they are and touch up the edge with the 8k,or reset the bevel and start again from 1/3/8k.
this will be my first attempt at honing a straight, and option 2 is sounding favourite, how many laps roughly would you expect to do with a 8k

If the razor was shaving good and just starting to pull there is no need for bevel setting at all all you need is a touch up. Lap your 8K and touch up the edge.

Sorry man, gotta lap those stones to get rid of the "skin".

Once you lap them, start on the 8K and give it 20 light strokes & shave. If it's where it needs to be, great. If not, repeat. If after the second try it's not right, go 20 on the 3K and then 20 on the 8K & shave. Try to find a honing mentor around you, I have no clue where IOM is.

I'm pretty sure Simpsons is based in the IOM, they might know some straight razor shavers. Where did you get the Naniza's from btw?

I think this is a better option than the 1/6 Ice Bear you were originally considering. You will need to lap your stones before using them.

aye they are my brother in law told me where and there only down the road ie less than a mile lol
they have been taken over by vulifix.
i got a nice "old original super badger" brush and a crabtree and evelyn soap bowl of him and his wife for christmas.
the 8k was from the invisible edge and the 1/3k was from amazon i think, but they were gifts from my family

OOOH do you watch that motorcycle race every year???? I've been dying to go to the isle and spectate but it's sooo expensive!

If you are in a hurry or don't have the money to purchase a lapping stone, try using the 3M sand paper sheets in 180 and 400 grit on a flat surface like a ceramic stove top. Put water under the sand paper as well as on top. The paper will stick to the surface and you can go to town lapping the hone!

Practice and Race Schedule - The official Isle of Man TT website

i used 380,600 and 1000 grit paper, drew a grid on them in pencil and rubbed till it was gone
