    Default DMT Help

Ok, so I got a DMT for Christmas. The chart explains that the green is Extra fine which is 1200 grit, and Fine is 600 grit. The problem is the package it came in was green, but the side of the hone says fine. So I don't know if it is fine or Extra Fine....

My 600 is marked 'fine' on the side and my 1200 is marked 'extra fine'. Merry Christmas !

So, I also got a norton 220/1000 for Christmas as well. Should I exchange the DMT fine stone for the extra fine or keep the fine One? Can I use the fine DMT as a lapping stone?

I would keep the fine. An Extra fine would take forever to lap a stone.

I use a D8C (325 grit) as a lapping stone & it works really well, but if all you have is fine or extra fine I would go with the Fine one...

Are you asking if you should get the EF stone for honing razors after your norton? A better choice would be a norton 4/8 combo.

The dmt can certainly be used for lapping a waterstone. Common agreement on this board is that the d8c is best for final lapping.

I have a norton 4/8k as well. My uncle just gave me the DMT. I'm just trying to figure out how to put it to the best use.
