    Default BBW and Naniwa set

Hi to all, first of all I hope to be in the right place for this question and I am sorry if it would be a tedious question. Last but not least, I apologize for my poor and macheronic English, I am Italian.

I am not exactly a new wet shaver with straight razors, but I am near to...... but I am surely new to honing.
Till now I have used only a coticule with, I think good results. I mean that my razors shave in what I assume to be a decent way. They was all new, not shave ready, and was a little easier I suppose to make them shave ready with coticule and strop.

Now the real question. I would like to try some restorations on razors with only rust problems, I mean not with "geometric" problems on blades. So, after reading many many posts and tutorials in the library the results of my thinkings are that I think to have a choice between three sets:
    1) Naniwa 1000 to create the bevel, a BBW with slurry and without as a middle step to the coticule
    2) Naniwa combo 800/5000
    3) Naniwa combo 1000/3000

Are my ideas correct, or have I to come back and pay more attention to the posts and tutorials?

Thank you very much to you all

If you are already getting good results bringing non-shave ready blades to a shave ready state with a coticule I reckon you will get by fine with just a 1k. You don't really need the the Belgian Blue as a middle step between the 1k-coticule, it can be used on it's own after the 1k or as a bridge between the coticule with slurry and the coticule on water.

Edit: I'd pick up a 1k, most people who like creating sharp things like a 1k something or other. You may feel you want more, you may not. But I suspect you will not regret buying a 1k stone.

I agree. My current setup (after trying many) is a Naniwa SS 1k and a Coticule, then I will use my Thuringian or C12K or Welsh Stones to finish. You can, however, do the bulk of your honing with just a coticule; no BBW needed.

Still though, you'll get good use out of a 1k if you decide to get one..Good Luck and have fun!!
