Thanked: 0Honemeisters in the Madison, WI area
Hello!
First post here on SRP, and an excited first-time user of a straight razor. It's one of those skills I've always wanted to pick up, but never quite had the time to explore. Now that I finally managed to snag a nice, vintage Wostenholm & Sons razor for a reasonable price on Ebay, I'm looking for someone in the Madison, WI area who can get it shave-ready. Any reputable honemeisters around here?
As a side note, I'm not particularly interested in becoming a collector or learning how to set bevels, etc. on my own. Maintenance of this one razor is all I really had in mind—basic stropping and some fine-grit honing from month to month.
Thanks for the guidance!

Thanked: 116If you can't find anyone in your area go to the members services' section of the forum. There are also quite a few members here that will be more than happy to hone for free as long as you pay shipping to and from.

Aller, you're asking about honemeisters. Isn't that the neck of the woods that Randydance hails from?
Something to remember about fleabay and antique store 'finds'. They often need ALOT more than just honing.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the tip, pinklather. I'll PM him. And, yeah, I'm aware that Ebay might not sell quality wares, but it was my understanding (from the SRP FAQ, at least) that as long as you could get a piece of quality steel from a reputable company, the rest was more or less restoration work. Besides, a basic Dovo can cost anywhere from $120-$140, and I only had to spend $50 total on the Wostenholm & Sons. It seemed like a good way to get acquainted with straight razor shaving without making a triple-digit investment.

Thanked: 0Hey Aller, did you ever find a honemeister in the Madison, WI area? I'm trying to get into straight razor shaving, and I can't seem to successfully set a bevel.
