Thanked: 18New JNAT and unknow stone
Hello, I got this stone on Ebay a while ago, in separate transactions, the smaller is Jnat, I get it from Japan, not from 330mate, from a different guy, is a hard stone, very fast with slurry, and finishing is about 8-10K. I get good shave from this stone. Do you have any ideea what it is?
The other stone, is from USA, the hardest stone I have ever know, is a green-blue with some darker stripes.
This stone was very flat, with just a little dishing in the middle. I can't put a grit on this one , it is very hard to raise slurry, and it come with a slurry stone, from same stone. The seller don't have a clue for what was used.
Thank you very much for your input.Last edited by livio; 01-25-2013 at 05:53 PM. Reason: Add more pictures

I've got a jnat with the same looks, mine is an Ohira, fast and smooth, mine I would say is like 6-8K.
It gives up slurry on it's own if you press it but if you lighten up you can go with pure water.
Nice prefinisher.

Thanked: 18Thank you, mine is a little harder, it not slurry by herself. It is a nice 6x3 piece. The green one is the mystery.

Yeah, if yours is harder then it's probably a little finer.
Here's my rock!

Thanked: 0The Japanese in the picture looks exactly like my Aoto I bought from Maxim at Japanese Natural Stones. But I am no expert so I might be mistaken
Red Aoto +++

It might look like it but i know for sure it's not.
I've got a "Red Aoto" right next to me.
How do you like the "Red Aoto" then, what do you use it for?

Thanked: 0Hehe, it is always hard to judge colours on a computer screen :-) I like it very much. My initial experiences are that it gives a smooth, clean edge very fast but I haven't had time to play with it that much unfortunately even though I have had it for some time. I use it with my kitchen knives :-) And you??

I'm sorry to say I'm not that fond of it, I've tried it with kitchen knives, white, blue, super blue, SLD, old Swedish carbon and every kind of stainless, it's slow, very slow.
As soon as I get any water on it it gives lots of slurry, way to much of it.
For example my Hideriyama, also a soft stone, if way faster to remove any type of steel and still gives a much finer edge and polish.
Maybe It's just me who doesn't get along with it but the only thing I use it for now is as nagura to wake up other stones.
So I don't really know what to say about it, if you try your stone any more please let me know what you think, and anybody else of course .
