Anyone know of a place on Long Island NY that sells sharpening stones???????

I'm on the wrong coast to help much but try Cutlery, woodworking, and hardware stores in that order. If you look for a woodcraft store they have an ok selection of hones lower than 8k and above that they have phig's.

First almost all water stones are made in Japan, Norton is not but is one of the most popular stones for newbies and experienced honers alike.
Second there is many many kinds of Japanese water stones and not all work with razors, the ones that are proven to work are Naniwa Super stones, Chosera, Shapron Glass and Pro. Suehiro also has stones that work but they are not readily available outside of Japan and pricey.Stefan
