Default Carborundum hone....Good or no? Suggestions...?

I bought a carborundum dry hone from an ebay seller a few weeks ago. I have yet to try it on any of my recently acquired straight razors as it seemed to not do so great with the kreigar I had (I know now that kreigars are terrible with any hone) so I am a bit apprehensive to try it on my nice blades. It feels to be more coarse than the 1000 grit wetstone I have for my knives. Has anyone ever used one of these before? what do you think of them? Suggestions for better hones? Just FYI I have very little facial hair so I have yet to really need to hone at the moment as my razors are still very sharp even after about 10 shaves. The strop seems to be doing just fine for now, but the moment I need to hone again I would like to have the right equipment. Thanks!

it all depends on the carborundum hone you have. there is a recent thread on the #103, post #5 has links to old threads on them as well.

Carborundum hones for razors will say so on the box. If it says dry hone it is probably for knives or pocket knives.

Depends on which Carborundum hone you have . Some will set a bevel & others are for refreshing an edge.
