Thread: lapping with DMT 325

hello everyone i just purchased a DMT 325 for lapping do i really need a DMT 120 also? if not how may times should i do the grid line technique on the 325??

Edit can i also use the Norton flatting stone before i go to the DMT 325?

I wouldn't go by me as I'm a newb myself but I just use a 325 and it works fine. I only use the grid pattern once.

The 325 should be fine for normal lapping purposes. Most guys will drop down to the 220 or 120 for very hard stones like Chinese naturals or barber hones, otherwise it isn't necessary to use both.

As for the gridline, I like to do two sets. Once for the initial lap, and then again just to be sure. Just be aware that even with the 325 it can take awhile, so don't get discouraged if the stone isn't lapped flat within a couple minutes.

Thanks Ryan82 I'm going to be lapping a new Norton 4k/8k so hopefully it won't be too hard to Lapp with just the DMT 325

No worries, the DMT 8C is perfect for Nortons.
