Chinese natural
Is there a trick to these? I have one and really can't tell that it does anything. I don't get much feedback and it doesn't really seem to polish or cut.

While they are natural stones, and therefore each one will be different, they are know for being SLOW. One of the old standards (I don't know if general usage has changed...) was 100 strokes with just water. And that was as a finisher. As always, slurry speeds things up, and you'll need to play with yours to figure out how to get the best out of your unique specimen.

Case, you really need to do an "Advance" search, above right, enter into "key words", Chinese 12k, PHIG,
Guangxi stone, Guangxi hone ; this will give you tons of information in threads related to the use of this hone.
They are a little slow, but a good one is worth the time.

Case, I'm not a slurry man, I have slurried only about 4 different times. Some of the other guys will chime in on slurry, sorry.

I purchase a Guangxi stone awhile back, believe it was less than your sites asking price(out of Poland?? Maybe). It's a hard stone and not meant to set a bevel on.

I don't use the "nagura" that comes with the Naniwas for anything. It's so coarse. I worry that it will break down a bit and release huge grit onto whatever I rub it against. (It is also very hard, so it may be safe, but I don't risk it.) My rule for slurry is I only use a rubbing stone that is as fine or finer than the stone I'm rubbing it onto. This is because I don't go to a stone unless I'm ready for that stone's grit rating (the opposite of "1 stone honing" methods, which also work but are different from my methods). My exception is when raising slurry with something I know won't break down, such as a DMT.
