While I agree that the HHT is not important, there can be a knack to doing it. The easiest HHT I have found is a chest (or similar) hair, held with the root toward the edge. When you place the hair over the edge let it rest there and give a very slight pull toward you so the scales of the hair catch in the edge. It still may not "work", but that is certainly the way that maximises the chance that it will.

Taking a razor that shaves well then questioning it because of a HHT is a bit like taking a winning race car to the engine dyno. It's information, but you already won the race...who cares if it does something razors are not meant to do?

OTOH, the hobby side of sharpening and honing may have some *wanting* to do the HHT for novelty sake. If this is the case, try with a variety of hairs. Pubic hair is very coarse typically and generally from a high humidity area (if freshly cultivated) and generally will demonstrate a successful HHT with a moderately sharp razor or knife. By contrast, one of my son's ultra fine blond hairs that has been in the brush drying out for weeks requires a MUCH sharper blade to pass. I trust you will find great variance in hair you find in your surroundings. All things equal, a dry hair will show fail, but after moistening it for a few minutes it may show a pass.

This may sound silly, but the HHT topic goes into a silly direction at times. I'm not trying to be funny or nasty. It is just observation.

If you really want to get deep read up on HHT-1 through HHT-5.

For shaving, there is no better proof of blade performance than a shave

Lucky it passed the TNT. At what point did you try the TNT ?
    What kind of razor ?

I have never been able to get a razor to pass HHT. Even ones that Lynn honed right out of the mailbox. When it came to shaving they shaved great. HHT to me means nothing.

You know me neither. I just nudge it up against some arm hair to see if it will pop it.

I think it depends on the razor as well. My dovo will pass the HHT 1/2 the time. And with thick hair. My revisor will pass 100% of the time on any hair no matter how thin or thick. But the both shave fantastic and relatively equal. Honed on the same stone.

That's interesting. If you were pressed to how would you describe the difference between each razor in the shave ?

I would describe my dovo as extremely sharp. It chops straight through stuff including my fingers. But it doesn't pass the HHT everytime. My revisor I would describe as buttery smooth shaving. But I have a tough time with it right underneath my chin and usually go to the dovo to clean that up. Which is weird. Since it passed the HHT everytime. This confirms to me that the HHT is nice. But does not mean it will shave you BBS with no effort.

I have honed them both a lot and do the exact same methods of honing. The bevels look the same everything. The only difference is the razors themselves. 1 person and two razors doesn't confirm a theory but I do find it interesting. I cannot explain it. If anyone can please let me know!

Just a WAG but maybe you are more familiar with the Dovo.

That may be possible. And it still lends to the doesn't really matter about the HHT as its the one that doesn't pass as often.
