Thanked: 247Little cased razor hone with strop and razor drawer.
I know there are plenty of guys who know what I'm talking about. I don't have a picture of one currently. But anyhow, the little stone in question has never been totally identified from what I've seen and read. I had one a long while ago, before I really knew what I was doing, and sold it because I couldn't get a bevel set. Now that statement doesn't make sense to some of you. But that'd be the real truth of it. Since I couldn't set a bevel, I couldn't sharpen a razor, and couldn't get any use out of a finishing stone...I digress.
The whole point of this thread is to maybe renew a little investigation about the stone that comes in the little razor case that comes with a place for a razor, a place for a stone, and a strop on one side. Coolest little thing. Probably the most famous one of these is featured in Undreams 14 part youtube razor resto videos. HIS was a Thuringian. Some others have said theirs were Schwedenstiens. No matter. I'm sure more than one company made the handly little device. And put whatever stone they had access to, or was best, according to them inside of it.
So I had one, I mentioned. Mine had a label actually. The label was very torn, and very worn. But with magnification, and much effort I managed to get some words off it. Najeeb Malluk Co. Now remember this was a long time ago, and I didn't really know a razor hone from an India stone..no offense to India stone users. Najeeb Malluk....That didn't sound like anything that made sense to me. Najeeb Malluk? Must be some kind of pakistani stone I surmised.
So long story, not shortened at all. I come across this today: Vintage Najeeb Malluk Co Razor | eBay
Lo and behold, I HAD read the words right. And this distribution company was selling razors as well apparently. So here were are. I present this story, and this link, as a possible breadcrumb to the origins of the handy little razor case. Which may then, possibly, enlighten us all a little more about the stones inside.
So, are there any document hunters out there that can shed light? Or have I just happened to miss any threads that talk about this company?
And of course, I see one on ebay I'm thinking of buying. So this probably wasn't the best time to bring it up. But oh well, there'll always be another one!
