Lapping Stone
So I just ordered the Naniwa 12000 and a Norton lapping stone. So my question is, is the norton lapping stone okay to use on the Naniwa as well? I went with the Norton lapping stone only because I own four Norton wet stones. So is it safe to use on my new Naniwa. I ordered all this from my go to place SRD so Lynn if you read please chime in. thanks guys

The Norton lapping stone is not appropriate for use on razor hones. It's not flat, so it can't impart the flatness you must have to hone razors. You'll just grind half your stone off and get frustrated. Send it back and get a coarse DMT plate (either the 8 or 6 inch versions will do, not the credit-card size)

that's funny, because I have a norton lapping stone and have lapped my two norton combo's and a naniwa 3k with no issues...
Yes the DMT plates are better for lapping, but saying ALL norton flattening stones won't work is a misstatement in my opinion.

The problem with the norton lapping stone is that it needs to be lapped. The DMT comes flat and doesn't need to be lapped after use. DMT is the better way to go

Thanked: 38Both the norton and the dmt325 are too coarse for the naniwa 12k. Lap the naniwa with them, but then give a short pass on wet sandpaper 600 .

The norton lapping plate is fine for lapping hones.
It's a very hard waterstone and it gets lapped each time you use it.
It leaves a course finish on the nortons. I prefer the finish left by the dmt
