    Default Okunumon White Suita

This just in, ordered first week in Jan, arrived today so i aint tested it

from metalmaster.jp .. good comms at first, no responses to my 'whereisits'

fine + very hard [according to my StoneEateriWood diamond plate which barely touches it] about 5x4 inch

and yes, i bought it from this description line: Japanese natural whetstone > "Tanba fields" | Japanese Natural whetstone "WHITE SUITA" 430g Lv3.5 very rare stone!!! .. but mostly from the pics

at least its a perfect size for the 3-stone-trick

It's a nice looking stone in my eyes but you'll have to wait for our resident experts to chime in and give you their unbiased opinion on how this stone will perform. Seeing that it's a level 3.5 makes me think that it's probably not a finisher but more of a pre-polishing stone.

What were your intentions as far as how this stone will be used?

seein as how ive got a Ohira Karasu bevel-setter on the way from thejapanblade, and a known-good-finisher Nakayama Suita already, all 5x4 [--ish]

id see it as a participant in the 3-stone-trick, for Jnatflatting

    and a possible pre-polisher as u say

    dependant on my own testing

and also on lapping out all the scribbles its got, as if a schoolroom of kids got at it with a scribe ... testing hardness? the sawmarks in the front-left are gone already

thats the vendor pic above, it looks better wet + its got 1 stamp on a edge, pic later

erm, yes, seems im the scribbler in question

might have bin a inclusion, whatever, its now flatted closer to most of the edges and corners

next up its going on a finer diamond plate, the DC521

If you don't want to flatten the whole face of the stone, that can be a waste of good rock, then make some markings where it's still not flat, so you don't use those parts by mistake.

I've personally never seen anything like it. I really do like the color of the stone though! Can you feel those lines/cracks with your fingernail or are they just veins in the stone?

they seem just veins, i cant feel em

if u look at the stamp pic, they go all the way to that line and no further

    so-so-so

this is a odd-shaped thin slice of seemingly nice stone, with good surface detail and colors, definitely sent from Kyoto

and possibly rare ... so far its worth the 139.65 inc import tax it cost me, in dollars, soaking wet anyway

the acid test is how it likes steel ...
