Default Regal Barber Hone Surface Refresh

Dear Fellow Members-Bought a dual grit Regal Barber hone off of EBay and have had no luck using it as a Barbers hone-that is, 4-5 strokes with shaving soap. Tried cleaning her with a stiff bristle hand brush and shaving soap, but don't think that this has affected it much.Don't think that it was ever used much, as the little diamond sticker that says "Self Shaver Razor Hone" was fully intact prior to removal. Am wondering if I need to dress the surface with emory cloth and then clean with the bristle hand brush and shaving soap. If so, what grade of emery cloth is recommended and can I use some narrow strips stapled together on a plane piece of wood? Perhaps more strokes are needed-the instructions are very vague. Thanx for any feedback-Gearhead222

Dont lap or use emery if its not needed.
Get to know the hone instead. Get a 100x cheap microscope and check the edge every 6 or 10 strokes.

I have lapped a barber hone but it was an abused thrift store find.

Yours is likely preforming at a much higher level than you expected it to, this is a good thing in my opinion. As Frameback said get to know your hone.

I have seen a more then a few instructions for barber hones the recommend cleaning the surface of the hone with a cloth soaked in ether gasoline or kerosine. So that is another option if you feel the surface is dirty.
