anyone heard of this?
Hi
i beginning to look into whetstones and what i need to hone razors. and i´m sure i can find exactly what is recommended to start out with in a bunch of other threads. but... i gather that the most allround stone is the 4k/8k whetstone right? and everyone seems to really point to the norton stone.
but unfortunately it seems I cannot buy that stone in Denmark, but what i CAN get is a yaxell 3k/8k
stone (inhere although its in danish Yaxell Japansk combi Vdslibesten - korn 3000/8000) can anyone in here tell me if that stone is recommended or should i get the norton from some other country?
If the latter what does the norton stone cost in your part of the woods?

I don't know if it applies in your country but, in another thread in the Ben/Lux forum, Bruno told a guy that he is saving money buying from overseas, as opposed to what it would cost if he bought in Belgium, with VAT and all that.
The Norton 4/8 is a workhorse and a good stone. It is what I've been using and i am happy with it. We used to recommend it so highly because it works so well, and so many members used it that there was sizeable knowledge base if someone needed a little help. Everyone was on the same page. Now, with the large experience members have with Naniwa super stones and Shapton glass stones, those are viable options, and maybe easier to come by in your country.

Never heard of this stone. But for the price I would consider a cerax stone set.
A 1000/ 3000 combo and a 8000 stone set incl. shipping from Germany to Denmark would still cost less than DKK 895,00. I personally use the cerax stones with good results.

yes it more than likely that i would have to buy overseas and prices in the us is SO much better than in Denmark, only problem is danish customs. the rules are that if you buy outside of the EU the price must not exeed about 12$ and that is both item and postage combined....of course that is IF it gets taken in custom. and then they put an extra 25% on it plus a customs fee.
but still it like to hear the prices on the good stones in your country.
great that you posted alternatives docholliday, I havent looked into germany yet and theres no customs when buying from germany
so alternatives are welcomeLast edited by Gargoyle47; 03-02-2013 at 09:04 PM.
