This stone is a Washita Arkansas stone. A very excellent stone in it's own right, but much too slow and coarse of grit for efficient use with straight razors.
Well my Escher came in the box and fits the colour profile quite well. This stone is extremely hard, has little wear and I would say it's quite fine. I will post a picture in the morning.

the size of the stone is what threw me off if it was a 8x2 then i would have bet the house that it was an india stone. but it could be an ark from the size you gave, as to what ark i would say a hard ark i have seen a few older oil stained arks with that yellowish color. i dont believe its an washita they have a mixed colors of red purple white grey, i have a few i would like to see better pic's if you want a better I.D some in sun light and some indoors.

To give an answer about the color, you have to make sure that colors on the picture are correct. Are they? BTW phone is not the best tool to make a picture anyway.

    I vote for Washita also.

The first thing that leapt out at me when I saw the photo was the orange/yellow colour cast. Not much point in making a guess really if the colours are wrong and the picture is blurry. Even 'hard' and 'soft' in terms of hone stones is pretty misleading without reference to something known.

    Regards,
