    Default 10,000 or 12,000

hi, i presently have a natural chinese 1000/3000 stone, i have a norton 4000/8000k stone on order, and i have a chinese 12,000 stone that i got for cheap, but im now re-thinking of getting a better finishing stone, should i get a 10,000k or a 12,000k?

    thanks!

I'd stick with what you have for a bit. Get to know the Norton, figure out if the Chinese 12k can improve the 8k Norton edge. Try some chromium oxide coming off the finishers you have.

You'd have to clarify what you mean by better, and also describe how your "12k" finishes. I have heard some are better than others, though I've never had a bad one myself (only tried maybe 5 or 6, so...). They are definitely slow, requiring a fair number of strokes, so that could be a factor.

But, for now, I would agree with Proinsias that you would be better served by figuring out what you've got/are getting before buying anything else. You should be able to get nice, smooth shaves straight off of the 8k. Then see what the 12k does for you, and then decide if you like it or not.

I'd take the 12000 because I could just cut the 2000 off it and have two extra bevel setters ready to go.

Sorry, I'll just shut up now.
