Default DMT D8C 325 as lapping stone

    Hi all,

I'm ready to push the button on a set of stones. My stones will be:

    - Chosera 1000 grit
    - Norton combo 4/8K
    - Shapton 16K
    - DMT D8C 325 as a lapping stone

    My questions is this:
    - I'm also planning om getting a steelex D1091 stone holder for the shapton and DMT. They will fit right?
    - I can use the DMT as a lapping stone on the other stones above? I am pretty sure I can but need confirmation from you experts before I pull the trigger on this.
    - Does the DMT need lapping? Probably a stupid question but since i'm going to use it as a lapping stone for the other stones it must be flat so....?

    Thanks,
    Stipey

Great setup, should be all you would ever need.

Yes, the stone holder will fit fine.
The DMT will do all your lapping chores with style, and it is flat, so no need for any lapping of it.
Not that you could even if you would want to

I know it was probably a dumb question but I just had to be sure before I went for it.

After watching gssixgun's videos on youtube where he said that this was his standard set up for years (except for the chosera stone). I thought that if it was good enough for him, it will probably be good enough for a hone-virgin like me
Allthough the complete Shapton kit would be nice as well...

I didn't notice that you were in Norway
If you'd like, and are anywhere near my location, feel free to bring your stones here.
We could do a little honing, lapping and whatnot

A few of the Norwegian members here also do an event we call the Nordic RazorCon.
This is a yearly gathering we hold each early summer in Oslo for all things shaving related, including honing and restauration work sessions.
You'd be very welcome to join us there!

I would take Birnando up on his offer Stipey. You will learn more in a few hours than in months of researching.

Was searching for info on stone holders and the DMT 325 myself and found this thread. As a fellow norwegian I wondered where you guys have bought yours? I just got Shapton GS #4000 and #8000 in yesterday and are jumping into this honing thing again.
