I keep my hones out of direct sunlight. Some of my hones have warnings about this leading to cracking.

Is this necessary? If so for how long?
I place my stones on a towel in the bathroom and leave the extractor on for half a hour (it's a small downstairs bathroom).
I STILL get some mildew on my Ohishi 10000 waterstone. I don't find it to be that big of a deal, I just wash it off before next use.
