The lighter colored stone has irregular coloration which is suggestive of a natural stone.

I'm fairly certain the lighter stone is not hindostan because it does not have the banding I've seen on other examples.

Some of that darker brown spotting on the light stone went away after I soaked it in ZEP degreaser for a little while. Do synthetic hones contain an minerals that react to oxidization?

The dark brown stone is pretty hard to lap, I've chewed through a couple pieces of 80 grit but it is almost to the point of flatness (not that it was that bad to begin with). Before I bought the 80 grit I was trying to flatten it with 220 and that actually gave the stone a half decent polish. So I am assuming once I get it flat, when I take it up to 2k paper it could get pretty glassy (I hope )
