Thanked: 28I think I just bought another coticule.
Hey guys, just paid 27 bucks for a 3/4 full tin of BUCK honing oil + sharpening stone =P
this is a coticule right? if it's been used with oil before do I have to clean the oil out of it?

saitou,
Looks not unlike a coticule
Coticules tend to be non-porous, so if you did want to de-oil it, a soak (or repeated soaks) in some warm (not hot) detergent solution should help.
Beading of water on the surface of the stone will show if oil is still present (otherwise if no oil, the water should spread out).
However, some users do use oil with coticules - there have been some posts on SRP about it.
Please have a peek here for further informations :

The above site has been frozen I believe, but there is some good informations to be had about coticules and their use.
Good luck
Have fun !
Best regards

Nice bargain. Just give it a light lapping. You won't remove the smell, but the water will be staying on the stone. And do the same whenever you see, that, water can't stay on its surface. After that, I've been using my coticules for finishing with non petroleum based solution that feels like oil, so, if it's a fine finisher, and you don't need it for coarser work, keep using it with oil.
