Thanked: 28Another nice score gooser =] How many coticules is that now? I only have 3 I think that will be enough for a while. Only one is with me at the moment and I'm yet to try it, I just honed up a razor up to 8k on the SS stones, is the coticule likely to smooth out the edge a little if I take a few laps of just water? or do I have to start on slurry? sorry I should start my own thread lol

honestly i dont know enough to give you a expert answer ...lol.. and admittedly i dont think i was getting the best edge possiable off of an 8k before i jumped to other stones at the time .. with that being said im getting a shave now that i prefer more then my 8k shaves , i honestly think if i was to go back to an 8k as my finishing point the razor would be much better then in the past but right now other then a Zulu Grey or 1k nani everything has been worked off the coticules and i havent desired to go back to anything else and razors that i had finished up to 12k i have been running them through the coticule as i pull them out to use them .. so in my opinion/case the coticule has much improved my razor(s) edge

Thanked: 28Thanks for the reply, I tried to stick with the advice of most people and only go as far as the 8k hone, I succeeded in getting a shave-able (not shaveREADY) edge, in that I can shave with it comfortably, but I have to be very careful with each cut, if I go too fast or slightly wrong angle it will pull. After I use chromium oxide and the red paste on the 8k level razor it feels much better and I don't have to be so careful with it. So i'm hoping that I've gotten as much of an edge out of the 8k as I can before I start moving on to finishers.
EDIT: I just took the 8k level razor to the coticule with plain water for 20-30 strokes and man IT IS SMOOOOOOTH my god I did not know I was capable of getting an edge like this with my newbie skills. I might even say it was "Shave-Ready"Last edited by saitou; 04-24-2013 at 06:49 AM.

the only thing ive enjoyed better then what i can do on my coticules is a razor i got from JimmyHAD on here and it was finished on an Escher , im getting real close to smoothness but that razor was just the best of sharp/smooth combined that i have EVER put to my face !!!

Thanked: 1Hey Gooser, I knew I recognized that Coticule from somewhere! Looks like you are liking it so far? I have another just like it with the salmon colored speckling and they give very nice edges. It takes a while but the results are fantastic.
I have found that a few laps on my Escher will take the smoothness level through the roof! Good luck with your HAD now!
