I've got the 12k Naniwa and love it. The alum block certainly lets me know where I need to improve, but I haven't used any SRD creams. Have you used or smelled any other sandalwoods? I'm curious how it compares scent-wise.

yeah I just did 5 strokes on either side of the razor and it feels brand new.. mind you the razor is only a month old and came shave ready from srd but still impressed. And no I have not tried any scented soaps from anywhere before.. I've been using the srd un-scented soap until now. smells nice in the container but not as strong as I was expecting.. however I havnt used it yet and am hoping that once I hit it with the brush and some lather the smell will really come out. looking forward to tonight's shave!

Shavex alum bar is the only one I use. I use it all the time & it's over 2 years old . It's about the size of a quarter now, still got some months on her.

ok so I got a bit excited and shaved already lol. razor shaved like a dream after honing and that srd sandalwood soap really came to life after a few swirls with a wet brush. first time using alum and I really like it. Hirlau do you dry off the alum when finished our just set it aside and allow it to air dry?

It is your choice really, I like to rinse with cold water after applying the alum then apply some aftershave or balm. Mix it up and find what you like best. Try using the alum before applying deodorant or in lieu of, it will change your world!

I just shake it off and let it air dry. I should have read a little more carefully! Your picture above cracks me up with the USPS box in the background. I am really starting to love those boxes!

It just sits in the open plastic container that it came in.
    It will dry itself.
