Naniwa 12000
I'm considering purchasing this as a finishing stone while honing my razor (new Dovo SS). It'll be used after a spin on a Norton 4000/8000. Would this be a good grit to finish with? Any other suggestions?
Thx

Thanked: 4942The Naniwa SS 12K is one of the most reliable and consistent finishers out there. It is also very good for refreshing.
Have fun.

How often would you suggest refreshing an edge? Is there a indication when shaving that it could use refreshing?

Thanked: 4942The edge needs refreshing when it goes from smooth shaving to just starting to pull. Usually 4-7 weight of the blade pressure strokes on the 12K followed by a good stropping will bring it back.
have fun.

Hey Brenn, Guys have strong opinions & feelings about their fav. finishers, but for my humble opinion the Nani12 is the bang for the buck, runaway winner. I use other stones after it, but its one of the better and most frequently used rocks I have. I owe 'Cudarunner alot of thanks for introducing me to it.

What they said....
You'd be hard pressed to find a negative comment regarding the 12k. Pull the trigger.

I go from an 8k to the Nan. 12k, strop and shave. I also use the 12k for touch ups when necessary.
Overall, the most used stone in my stable.

Thanked: 3With my whopping 17 hours of experience ( as in its been 17 hours since I unboxed and lapped my first stone) I don't have much to say from experience, but as I had to find the balance between spending money on hones without needing to spend money on a divorce lawyer, I did a ton of reading on different stones. from what I have read by people who know, it is a good stone to go with! Oh his page Phil from classic edge says he likes the 10k as much as the 12.

Thanks all for your input. looks like the 12K will be the one.
Know what you mean. Your 17 is so much more than my 0 but I'm jumping in with both feet here (no fear). Like you I've done a lot of reading and watching videos posted by some of the people on this forum. I also noticed the commentary on classic edge. I'm guessing it's a matter of technique + preference. Well I guess I'll find out. After all what's the worst that can happen Time to prepare Now let's begin .......
