Default High spot on new DMT 325

Just got a new DMT 325 in the mail today. Worked a few chips out of a taylors eye witness and was very happy with the fast results. Then on to lapping my Naniwa 1k with the DMT. Lapped it and found that my Naniwa felt very rough to the touch. After drying it I could see that it was all scratched up. It seems there is one high spot on the DMT that's digging into my naniwa. I can't find the defect on the dmt but sure enough ever stroke leaves a scratch. The scratches are deep enough that i can feel them while honing. Is this a common issue with DMTs? Should I send it back to the vender for a replacement. Is there a way to flatten the high spot?

Sharpen some knives and a few chisels with it first.

Run the shank of a screwdriver across the DMT to knock down the high spot.

+1, what they said above. For our purposes it is recommended to 'break in' the plate with some steel. Use a bit of water and a couple of drops of dish soap. I use the shank of a 12" screw driver because I don't have any plane irons or chisels. Something of that type. Make sure to rub the top edges/corners to knock down any divots that might be there.

Man you guys are fast! One sharpened pocket knife later and my Naniwa 1k lapped up nice and smooth without the scratches. Thanks guys.

3 dmts, broke all of em in before using. The last one I rinsed over a bowl and there's definitely some grit or loose diamonds or whatever coming off. Its not a lot but you don't need much. Heaven forbid you get some of that embedded in your 12 k. That will set you back to the 1 k real fast. A 325 dmt is 45 microns, the 12 k is a little more than 1 micron.

That was my biggest fear. When I first felt the rough 1k I thought I had imbedded a bunch of diamonds in it. I've now lapped all my Naniwas with it and finished honing the Taylors razor that I worked the chips out of on the DMT. Got a nice mirror finish on the bevel so they're good. Threads are always better with pics, so here's my latest restoration. Just finished and ready for my next shave.

Worst case. If the high spot is in the steel rather than a high cluster of diamonds you may not remove it with the usual methods. Warranty may be the way to fix that but you seem to have remedied it.
