    Default King hone

Has anyone had any experience with a King 1K/6K combination hone?

This one is used a lot by members of nassrasur.com instead of the Norton 4K/8K.

It is less than half the price of a Norton!

Never heard of it. I've got a barber hone called "The King" that I like.

I have one, they are japanese waterstones. I got mine at Woodcraft.com. I used the 6k side before I got the Norton combo. It worked good. I think I used mine a couple of times. I have not used it since I got the Norton.

That is a very good stone, but i'm sure you could find it MUCH cheaper than that. They sell it in the UK for £47, about $100. You might also consider tracking down a kitayama or naniwa fine polishing stone in the 8-12K grit range, they are well regarded on the knife forums.

I bought an King f-1 for about $20 from ebay. The one you've pictured is 8000 grit i believe.

I have a king 1000/6000 combo and i am quite fond of it. It was my first jap stone. I use the 6000 grit as a large nagura, to build up some fine slurry on my king f-1 before razor honing.

It is the same manufacturer but I am not sure what grit this one is.
The cheapest King stones I found until now are from Japan Woodworker. I have asked them about shipping costs.

180 dollar is expensive unless it is a very special size or grit.

www.axminster.co.uk you will need to check whether it is a g-1 or a different 8000 grit stone, because king make a variety of stones, but from the photo's i can tell it is one of their higher end ones because they sell them with a nice plastic base.

I would be tempted to go for the 10000 grit stone axminster sell, which is a Kitayama (Norht Mountain) stone. When i have some cash i think i will buy one of them.
