I agree that the Dovo stainless blades are great shavers, but can take a few more strokes on the hone (Imagine that, I agree with Lynn.... I bet he's relieved )

As far as "honed for comfort rather than sharpness" goes, IMO you cannot have the former without the latter.

Good luck with your shave test tonight - I hope you've gotten there.

Well the shave last night was miles above the one before. The WTG pass was particularly comfortable. However, I could tell the sharpness wasn't quite there for the AGT pass, though doable. Just barely. Still got a BBS in most areas with a DFS in others. I suppose a few more light strokes on the hones would take it to that last level of sharpness I need. Edge looked fairly smooth and even under the loupe.

Sounds like you did well then. Few more strokes on the hone and you should be good.

Thanks Bill. I'm just surprised how much it took to get this edge decently sharp! It really felt like a factory edge to me. Definitely a few more strokes and it should be very nice.

So this is only my second post but, i too just recently purchased a dovo en vogue and am having a very similar issue. I wrote it all in my intro but this does give me some hope.

If you are new to honing, my advice would be to send it to a pro for sharpening. I still don't have it fully dialed in!! But it is much better than it was before.

Look straight down on the edge with magnification and light. If you see shiny spots you need to reset the bevel. Hair test are not conclusive.
