Thanked: 1Well, I followed the advice offered here to some good results. The tape didn't seem to help much. I tried 1-3 layers. I tried stacking an extra layer in the middle of the trouble side. None of that helped, which makes me think it is not a spine issue alone but that the entire blade is ever so slightly warped.
What did help was the narrow hone idea. I didn't actually get a narrow hone but folloed gssixgun's advice which allowed me to move the heel off the stone in order to make contact with the middle of the blade. I use a rolling X on the opposite side.
After some work, I lathered up and gave it a go. This was straight off the 8k. I can't find my old strop so I used my jeans (pulled tight). I ended up with a much smoother face but nowhere near what I used to get with Feather disposables or even cartridges. I'm fairly pleased considering I haven't used a straight in over a year and this is my first time honing and it is an ebay razor. That gives me hope that with a decent strop and some Chrome Oxide paste (which I've never used), I can get this baby into good shaving order.

glad it worked out for ya.
shaving from 8000k without a good stropping will tugg. i would get some chromium oxide 0.5 micron on a leather or felt piece if your not planing to buy higher grit stones or naturals.//Magnus

Thanked: 177I chamfered the side of my 4/8 to where I have 3/4 of an inch of hone on each side of each grit. It takes a while and its a little bit of a pita to set up with the stone holders but it works. Just stay on the white or yellow side.

Thanked: 1I have the set with the 220/1k and the 4k/8k along with the lapping plate. I used to have a swaty but sold it a couple of years ago. Just ordered a strop and CroOx balsa from whippeddog.com.
