Default Need help with Honing Alternatives

Hi, so I have been looking to hone my razors with Lapping Film, I did find a place here that sell per sheets, but only the 5,3 and 0.3 mic. I did my research on the lapping film on what grit to start and to finish.

Honing stones is for now a bit expensive for me. To import any lapping film from America or any where is also a expensive move for me.

So I was wondering can I use wet sandpaper and lapping film in combination to hone my razor, and what grit to start with.

Wow we have been talking about a new stone coming from SA. Maybe you are not so far from help as you think ? Although SA is a big place.

I know nothing of films and like this stone I think they are just for finishing. If you have serious honing to do you may have to think outside the box or keep searching for an alternative.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I seem to recall, in the far and dim distant past, a fellow who went by the name of WildTim. I seem to recall he used wet/dry for some part of the honing process, though I am not sure at what stage. Perhaps an advanced search on his username may bring up some info.

As well, have you considered pastes? By all accounts, a syringe or spray pack of diamond chips (for example) can last a long time and could be a cost-effective way to maintain a shaving edge over time. You may even be able to locate a source locally from somewhere like a lapidary supplies outlet rather than ordering from overseas.
