Thanked: 346There are a couple of nail tests and you don't mention which one you did. Unfortunately you probably damaged the edge whichever one you did - the thumbnail is too hard for a honed razor edge and will damage it. You can use the thumbnail tests early on in the honing process when you're forming the bevel, but after that stick to hair tests, thumbpad tests, and shaving tests.

The thumbpad test is where you take a moistened thumb pad and move it gently across (not along) the edge to feel how it grips you thumbprint.
Definitely strop it between 30 and 60 laps and it's good to go!

Thanked: 0Alright thanks! Ill test it out tomorrow. Since everyone is responding to this one.. I accidentally put the white DOVO strop paste on the leather side of one of my strops the one that your only suppose to put on linen is there anyway I can save the leather side? I took a moistened towel and tried to take it off...

That was not a good idea as the white paste contains a mild abrasive. What you need to do is take a leather cleaner to it and remove as much paste as possible. I donŽt think youŽll have any problems if there are miniscule amounts left after the cleaning.
