    Default Norton vs. No name

I already have some waterstones that are distributed by Lee Valley in 1000x, 4000x, and 8000x. These stones are less expensive than the norton stones that are sold in single grits, and my questions are:

    1. comparing the same grits between the brands, why are nortons so much more expensive?

    2. will getting some nortons give me a better edge? or will the stones I have (properly lapped) give me the same results?

the stones I am talking about are available here: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...71&cat=1,43072

I haven´t tried these stones, so I cannot give you a definitive answer, but here are a couple of observations..
    1) Norton is a proven performer
    2) It cuts unusually fast compared to what else is out there on the market
    3) If you´re really going to be doing THAT many razors that you need single grits, you might as well pay more for quality.

I would think they will be fine. Norton stones might be a little better, but it is not necessary for you to buy new stones.
