Default One on one help is the best

I was so lucky to meet an SRP member from my home town. Mrsell63 approached me after reading one of my posts. After a few messages he so kindly came to my barbershop and gave me some honing tips and let me see some different stones, strops and razors. It was amazing how much I picked up in a few hours. I encourage all the beginners to look for a local veteran and I encourage all you hone experts to to reach out to a near by beginner. The one on one experience can't be beat.

Yep, face to face is the best teacher of all. You had a good teacher & learned more in those few hours than you would have in months of reading with trial and error.

    Default One on One Update

Since I started this thread Jerry (mrsell63) and I have been meeting once and sometimes twice every month. He's been a tremendous help. We touch base on all types of subjects pertaining to razors and especially honing/stropping. Today we reviewed the Pyramid Method and successfully honed my Otto From Red Head using it. I also had a chance to use the oh so sweet Suehiro Gokumyo finisher. On top of all that Jerry gave me a demonstration on pinning. I went home with another load of know-how. We both went home with smooth shaves!

Yes, that's fat old me in the second photo. Josh is an outstanding student. He was able to achieve a very nice 8k shave at the end of only our second session together which was only 2 or 3 months ago. He is now exploring finishers like the Zulu and Gokumyo 20k. I shaved with a razor he honed today. Very nice. Very close shave.
