    Default Working on Union Spike

I own several Union Cutlery Spike razors and I'm beginning to hone up a few of them. Most of the blades seem to have heavier wear towards the point. Is this common with the single shoulder wedges? How should I go about resetting the bevel? Rolling X strokes concentrating on the heel?

The spike I have has the same spine width, heel to toe. I would say yours has some extra honing wear at the toe end. If it were me, I'd probly put on layer of tape and hone leaving the taper alone, as in not try to fix.

I've done quite a few of these. I find that especially if they have a bunch of wear on the spine, that heavy circles on the 1K until the entire edge touches on the stone really works. You can use a layer or two of tape, but if there's a lot of wear already there, you really aren't saving anything. Once the entire edge touches (this is where I include the X strokes following the circles) and you put a nice bevel in them, they hone up nicely and shave pretty well usually.

    Have fun
