Going to try and make it straight, with smiling ends, if that makes any sense?

Any tips on what to do?

Thinking about rounding the edge with dmr or my king stone. Since I are going to set the bevel any way.

What does your honing mentor recommend? Don't follow any other advice until you have it down his way, then look at other ways to hone. This will help you to get the absolute best of training, without muddy water. You are lucky to have such a good mentor near by, enjoy your journey!

    +1 to what Shooter said.
Until you can get consistent results with one system, it really doesn't pay to start playing with variables. Even if those consistent results are not what you are looking for, the fact that they are consistent is what is important.

That razor looks like its seen better days.

Is that a short blade or is there a huge chunk missing?

I recommend starting out with something in better shape.

Btw birnando is a nice guy and a great honer. You are lucky.

I' say you should get some better looking straight to start out with, no smile or frown, just a plain straight edge.

Don't have anything else to hone:/ My birnando razor are as sharp as it gets, so stuck with thisone until I get a new one.

I can ofc ask birnando, but for me the point with a forum is that it's many ppl, not 1. It's not like I am going to break anything, if I get it wrong.

That razor had a bad nic in the middle, so I used my electric grinder to remove half the blade. Also the scales broke of on the first shave, so I have yust cut them away. Going to make a solid wood handle for it, if I can get it to shave good

On a funny side note, both birnando and me bought the same watch for our first paycheck, like minds and all that

Hope to do some more honing with him when I aren't on a deadline to get back home and with some more skills. Did everything wrong!

Trying to hone the razor in the photo.

Used a sawing motion on a 360 king then 1000, then 2000. To get the shape I wanted, and to get to freesh steel.
Then worked up to 2000 on the bevel. Got a nice and even bevel now, soon I can start with the higher grits.
But I needed to work in the house(pay back for my birnando trip). So hope to get to the realy nice stones tonight! And also to test out my new 60x magnifier

Ok, on the 5000 stone now. It shaves my arm, but stil not hanging hair. Think this can be a nice beard trimmer soon
