Great post and great replies!! I am going to the 'hitting the honing wall' post next. I too have found that my honing lacks consistency. I honed a completely rusted out Red Injun 102 I got at an antique store for $10 (after hand sanding/polishing all the rust off) and figured I'd touch up a Heljestrand that had given good shaves before but was starting to tug a little. Fast forward a couple of hours and the Boker is giving beautiful, smooth shaves and the Heljestrand took about 3 steps back It will not shave ATG at all. It feels like sandpaper. It looks good under a 20x loupe and a 100x hand microscope but feels terrible. I am following Glenn's advice and putting it aside for a few while I enjoy the 'new' Boker! Thanks to everyone that posted here....outstanding advice and motivation to keep on trying

What hones do you have. Mashup we can give you some hone specific advise. I like trying different angles. Straight across, heel forward, heel toward to straight, heel forward x, straight x etc or even combos
