I spent the time researching to find out what hones to buy. Brought the nanis as recommended by Glen and Lynn. Also got the nani lapping stone. Lapped the lapping stone then used. It sucked and left scratches in the hone as needed edges bevelled. Did more research on lapping and found both Glen and Lynn again recommending the d8c. So of course that what I got. Who am I to argue with the pros. That what I love about this site. Helps me stuff up a lot less than I would by trial and error.

Thanked: 0So once a 325 grit DMT DC8 is broken in, it won't unduly scratch a 12,000 grit honer?

Once broken in you'll be surprised how smooth it feels

It's good to hear that the thing will need breaking in and will do a good job on my kitchen knives. I have been putting off sharpening those things (just hit them with the steel everytime I use them) for about a year and a half. Onions will quake in fear of my diamond-sharpened food-cutters!

Heh, it will certainly improve the edge of a well-used knife! After the DMT8C, I always take kitchen knives at least to the 1K, preferably to 4K. And strop on newspaper, I wrap mine around one of the hones lying around (after drying). And now you can lap your 1K after kitchen knife honing
