Default What kinda of tape do you use?

So some one earlier posted a thread about tape earlier the other day and well it went kinda crazy with back shaving and hand taping and what not. I'm sure if someone were to judge this site upon one thread only and that was the thread they would think were a bunch of loonies, a fun bunch atleast but...

Anyways It kinda got me thinking about a problem I have been seeing with my tape. I tape all but one razor and that is because I have an experiment going with that one. The problem I am running into is that all but one of my tape rolls leave residue that is just the biggest annoyance. And the one tape that doesn't leave any is almost gone and has no marking or labels so I don't know who makes it. I picked up a roll of "Super 33" as I thought I remembered hearing people use that alot for razors but I was mistaken and it was "Super 88" that they used.

But really what I want to know is will the Super 88 leave gunk on the razor. Is there any that won't leave any. I have a razor with alot of file work and the gunk likes to get in there and its almost impossible to get out. Or if tape no matter what kind I get will leave residue, what do you use to get it off. I have tried everything from trying to scratch it off to water and soap and trying alcohol and some work better than other but none work really at all.

Mind you this is not a thread about taping versus not taping. I tape most and one I don't thats what it is and what it will be. Just purely a question about what tape doesn't leave residue or how to get that residue off.

Try a bottle of GOO GONE. Works wonders on label residue on glass.

Best way to remove residue is the tape itself.
Just take a fresh piece of tape, dab on the residue and it should simply vanish.
At least it does for me.
    I normally use 3M super 88 or Super 33+
    Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

I use 3M made in Minnesota. Give some folks a job. A squirt of lighter fluid on a tissue, or paper towel, cleans any residue off of the spine and is cheaper than Goo Gone, which I don't care for anyway. For me it was a waste of $5.00. YMMV.

3M super 88, try this by far the easiest way to remove the left over residue, after you peel off the tape wrap a little around your finger sticky side out and dab the left over area instantly picks off anything left on the razor simple job done.

I use the tape I just took off the razor. Works well for me at least.
As far as the brand, I have a ton of Scotch 35 and the residue is minimal from it.

    3M Scotch #700

I don't have a wear or residue "problem" but for the occasional time I need to clean a tiny bit off I do the same thing as Jamie.. Take the old tape off, wrap it sticky side out around my finger and it takes any residue right off...

I was thinking about goo gone but the smell is nauseating to me. I never thought that the tape would work to take off its own residue. I will try that. Simple enough answer.
