Thread: Gem barber hone

Does anyone actually shave with the edge off of a Gem barber hone?

It seems like most of the barber hones that are available out there are in the medium range, so it seems logical that people used these to touch up their razors.

The Gem is supposed to be a medium grit hone. But I can't imagine shaving with the edge that my Gem leaves. It's sharp but it feels pretty "toothy" or rough. I think my skin would be pretty raw after a bout with an edge like that...

I know none of those barber hones haves a grit, but Gem, is comparable with a 4000 or a 6000?Or even else?

I'd put it between 4K and 8K, so 6K sounds like a good guess.
