Does anyone actually shave with the edge off of a Gem barber hone?

It seems like most of the barber hones that are available out there are in the medium range, so it seems logical that people used these to touch up their razors.

The Gem is supposed to be a medium grit hone. But I can't imagine shaving with the edge that my Gem leaves. It's sharp but it feels pretty "toothy" or rough. I think my skin would be pretty raw after a bout with an edge like that...
