Very interesting article Neil, certainly a personal opinion, but nevertheless a good read from an experienced honer. Hones or hones system are like women, you got to find one that works for you, and take the time to learn its in and out. Having many different system or women will more then likely have the effect of leaving one unattended or not in use.

Dont ask me how i know this!

My harem is constantly rotated, Martin. None are left out, all work for me. I use most of my hones too - when not otherwise engaged.

Was there a reference to the viral Zulu? If so I missed it.

I was looking at getting a Spyderco hone for my knives to try and see how it works. They have UF version in 8x3" now, not sure if that was the case at the time the article was written.

I do have both the silkvein and the zulu, but in truth I seldom, if ever, use them. When I can think of something a bit more positive I might add them.

RE: the spyderco, I dont remember the size, I think I had a smaller version, but I am sure it was longer than a typical barber hone.

    Regards,
    Neil
