Thanked: 375Yes, you are correct, I can't say why or what I was doing wrong before, but this fixed it. It could have been that I spent way to much time honing other razors that day and had bad form. I did notice by the shank through to the tang it was thinner than other razors I have this size, hence two layers of tape idea. It's shaves very well, and I'm happy with the results.

Thanked: 4828It is always awesome to overcome a honing issue. I am trying to understand how adding the tape worked, and I can't help but wonder if it had somehow made up for uneven spine wear which has got to be a factor in it giving so many challenges.

Thanked: 375The hone wear really didn't look all that bad, except at the toe end. the last 1/8" was wider. Looking at how the blade edge was worn it didn't make much sense to me, as it was even and honed apparently toward a smile. My thoughts were the spine wasn't offering the right angle (so I guess wear) but it didn't appear to have much aside from the toe end.
Someone had mentioned that it was a regrind, but didn't offer how they arrived at that, or why. At any rate the problem was solved and I'm thankful we all have a resource like SRP with such knowledgeable people.CHRIS

Thanked: 31From what I've seen Sofar is that most stub tails have a rather thick grind. Cudo's on gettin' her to shave.
