    The hone wear really didn't look all that bad, except at the toe end. the last 1/8" was wider. Looking at how the blade edge was worn it didn't make much sense to me, as it was even and honed apparently toward a smile. My thoughts were the spine wasn't offering the right angle (so I guess wear) but it didn't appear to have much aside from the toe end.
    Someone had mentioned that it was a regrind, but didn't offer how they arrived at that, or why. At any rate the problem was solved and I'm thankful we all have a resource like SRP with such knowledgeable people.
