Question Doing pretty good so far. . . .

I have been watching videos, reading the forums and practicing honing on eBay specials, and I just want to say that learning curve is heavily understated for me...lol. I have finally broken through some of my heavy handed tendencies as a newbie at this point (after many mistakes, warped blades and rolled edges).
I have gotten to the point where I am confident on my bevel setting, I am getting mid hair plinking on leg hair at 8k, but the hht is still eluding me. I have read about the controversy over this particular test and I admit my own hair is very fine so I am sure that may be a factor. Though I am experiencing some damn nice shaves (as far as I know) I still want the grail edge. . .that final pinch of spice that bridges perfection. Any suggestions or links would be much appreciated, Mark.

Norton lap stone, 220/1k, 4k/8k, prep stone, Shapton 16k glass, chromium oxide powder on balsa, iron oxide on balsa, leather and cotton strop. I usually go straight to a plain leather strop after the 16K.

Glad to hear it is working out for you & you are enjoying it.
For the "Grail Edge", as you put it, I search for it too, but I slowly search for it, because I enjoy the honing journey.
I'm not sure I want to find the perfact edge, just yet.

    I agree with Hirlau,
two years and hundreds of blades on the very hones I chose to start with.
I "think" I am getting all I can get out of my finisher and doing it consistently.
Sad part is these are synthetic hones....
Ready to find the perfect edge, nah I am just getting decent at honing my journey is just beginning.
Ready to allow my HAD to start developing.
Oh Yeah I see rocks in my future

Just like the holy grail I have never heard of anyone finding the grail edge. You can get a great edge but could it get better with this or that stone. Maybe, guess I will need to try them all. I will report back if I ever finish

Unfortunately this will probably take a life time as the misses is reluctant to open the purse strings for razor related items. Its probably best to just get the best of the stones I have yet the collection seems to keep growing slowly.
