    Default Soapstone assistance

Well, I have decided that my C12 hone is hard as heck but not quite 12K as compared to a Nani SS 12. I've been foolin around with a soapstone on the C12 for lube with water...Sofar it seems to improve the cut/polish of the stone. Anyone else ever experiment with soapstone?

Soapstone is mostly talc, with a hardness of 1 on the mohs scale, whereas steel, depending on the type, is from 5 to 8.5, so it is unlikely that there is any cutting effect.

However, things like graphite and chalk, both very low on the mohs scale have been used for a long time to polish/burnish the razors edge, so I suppose this is the effect you are seeing.

    Regards,
    Neil

Thanks Neil, My research was telling the same thing. I think it's working more like a lubricant. Either way, I think it's another tool. I will keep playing around with it. I was just wondering if any one had messed with it. Happy honing 'n shaving.
