    Default University Study into Sharpening

There is a very extensive study done into knife sharpening but straights do get shown also. They use a scanning electron micrscope (SEM) with some amazing photos. There are also different sharpening methods and different sharpening stones etc. Well worth the read.............if only I could understand it all though

This guy has done all sorts of different studies and I came across another one mentioning Damascus steel.

I did stumble across this guys name on Howards web site and then did the search, so I just thought other people may want to read it even though its not really directed at straights.

    You can find it HERE.

    John,

    Thanks for sharing this.

I uploaded it to the help files on the main site... ie, Library/ Help Files & Documents/ Permanent Archive/ Honing & Stropping Information/ Knife Sharpening Study

Regardless of where you retrieve it from, it's an 8MB file, so give it some time to download/open.

That document is well known to several of our members, and has been linked to on couple of occasions, here, on SRP.

Prof. Verhoeven has done a couple of metalurgic studies. Just use the SRP Search feature and type "Verhoeven".

    Default University study

I was wondering if anybody actually read my "Honing How To" section! One of the useful photos in that study shows the area of "flow" just behind the edge. This is interesting and may explain why the pyramid method works.
