    Default Behind the curtain

I'm here just about every day...well, every day. So this big question which I am guessing has been asked already because it seems they all have: has anyone done something of a blind test of hones, something to approach science....I like the microscopic photos but this is about shaving.....has anyone tested say a series of honing regimens, using one or more razors and multiple users. I would like to see everything tested, the main hone masters could assemble the progressions, stropping, etc. and send razors out to X number of experienced straight razor users. I am not experienced to even throw out numbers...but not to make it too complex limit the razors to 3 or 4, the progressions to something that will make sense...all naturals, all synthetics, combinations of both. Does anyone think this could work? Or are there too many reasons why it can't? This is of course, a crude outline.....but I hope you get the idea. Thanks

It's definitely doable and I can see how it makes sense. Let me play devils advocate for a minute. To do this you would need a few things lined up first.

    1) One or more "testers" who would be willing to rate each razor they shave with. These people would have to be able to tell the difference between a range of conditions and be able to describe the shave results in a consistant manner.

    2) One or more "Hone Meiseters" who are generally accepted as being capable in thier trade and willing to put in the time and effort for this.

    3) One or more razor donors. For this to be "perfect" as a test you would need multiples of each razor type used. This would allow a fair test of different steels on different hones. A more reasonable requirement would multiple razors of a single type.

    4) People willing to pay transport costs for the immense shuttling of razors that would occur.

    5) Someone to coordinate and run the entire thing.

That being said, while the results would be interesting, I don't see it as being feasible.
